Mr. Kolbeck received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy graduating with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse in 1991. He has practiced in the orthopedic and sports medicine arena throughout his career with a strong interest studying and treating the orthopedic and sports injured shoulder and the intimacy it has with the cervical and upper thoracic spine.

Karl is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association, a Certified Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapist (COMT) through the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.

He has been instructing orthopedic and sports medicine physical therapy and manual therapy courses since 2001. In 2005 he founded and is President of Empiridence® Seminars, teaching nationally and providing a comprehensive integrated approach to clinical evaluation and management of the shoulder girdle based on empirical knowledge and evidence enhanced practice.

Karl practices in Portland, OR at Pettygrove Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation with specialization on the shoulder girdle, as well as provides clinical mentorship and staff training and consultation services. He is a guest lecturer at Pacific University School of Physical Therapy and presently is conducting research on glenohumeral geometry and its application to isolated glenohumeral motion assessment and correlations to shoulder girdle pathology.
